Before and After Pictures of an Evaporator Coil Replacement on an A/C system in Houston, TX
Above are examples of an air conditioning replacement performed in Houston’s Heights. The picture to the left not only shows an older (but not that old) evaporator coil on a goodman/amana hvac system. The older evaporator coil was leaking R-22 refrigerant. Thus we replaced the coil with an Aspen slab evaporator coil. As you can see the previous unit does not have a code required float switch. The float switch is the small brownish item on the end of the pan. When water fills up the pan this nifty device shuts the system down and prevents the water from flooding into your house. Pretty awesome. Also note that the pan on the older unit shows clear signs of moisture judging by the rust shown in the bottom of the drain pan. They are lucky that the pan never overflowed during the life their old evaporator had. This time they will be much safer with their new air conditioner evaporator coil.
